Monday Meet & Greet with IdreamofEddy

Monday Meet and Greet

Hello, Lambchops!

So, this will be our last Meet & Greet segment featuring members of this blog. Starting next Monday, we will be featuring your favourite authors within the Fandom.

We're branching out and corresponding with authors to participate in our fun little segment. There's going to be some excited people around here with all of the authors who have agreed to participate.

This week we have Kaylene, aka IdreamofEddy. She is a favourite author to many, many Jasper or Peter readers in the Fandom. She is from Iowa, and when it comes to her writing and the way she is able to draw in her readers, a little bit of Field of Dreams needs to be bastardized here: If she builds it, they will come.

She has inspired many with her creation of the God of War Jasper and her cocky little know-it-all we all love, Peter, thanks to Colliding Meteors and The Orbiting Meteor, and a little fic called Breathless Hunger which has, unfortunately, gone the way of the dodo bird due to a lack of inspiration.

So, sit back, relax, and get to know her a little better.

Tell us about yourself. Married? Single? Kids, age...whatever you'd like to share.

I'm 37 years old and I live outside of a small town called Malcom, IA, which is about 63 miles east of Des Moines. I happily divorced a good man eight years ago. He is a good man because he just is. I'm the proud mother of a six year old little girl and I am currently single. My daughter's name is Jessie, and she is MY WORLD. I'm an Emergency Communications Dispatcher for three hospitals in the Des Moines area. I LOVE my job. I grew up as an Air Force brat, and I moved around constantly. I was born in Sacramento, CA.
I'm prone to disaster. I lived in Wichita, KS, and I survived two tornadoes. I was in the BX on an air base when a C-135 crashed outside in a field right next to it on Friday the 13th. I was once followed home from work by a guy who looked like Mohammed Atta. To this day it still remains a mystery to me because I have no idea what he wanted. Ooh...I lost control of my car once, nearly taking it off a cliff with the first man I ever fell in love with. Recently, I broke my foot a few weeks ago after our first blizzard. That really sucked.

Tell us about Twilight. How did you first get into the Saga, when was the first time you read it, and which book is your favorite?

One of my co-workers had Twilight in her book bag one night in October of '08. She just started gushing about it, so I picked it up and read the first chapter. Then I read the second chapter. Then I went to Wal-Mart, and I bought the book. I finished it later that night. I went back to Wal-Mart the next morning, and I bought New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Within three days' time (and luckily I was off from work), I had all four books read. I was literally blind by the time I finished BD. Of course, that could be just because I felt like I needed to pour bleach inside them after reading that crap. My favorite book is Twilight. I thought it was damn near perfect. My least favorite is a toss up between New Moon and BD. I think New Moon because that one made me so angry at both Bella and Edward for a multitude of reasons.

BD...more specifically, Renesmee, reminded me of Dune, with Alia, the spawn of Lady Jessica after she drank the Water of Life. The fade to black pissed me off, too. There could have been... something. I realize it was for teens, but come on, the shit they talk about and experience these days? It could have been done elegantly and with the love that Bella and Edward shared. The fucking spawn that was Renesmee bursting out of her stomach should have faded to black, too, in my opinion. Stephenie, though, you have to admire her for giving us these stories. It was her vision, even if there were things that needed to be changed. It's different for everyone out there, I think.

What got you to start reading Twilight fanfiction? Do you remember the first fic you read?

I don't remember the first FF story I ever read. When I discovered FF, I was surfing around on Stephenie's website, and I clicked the link for FanFiction.net. I started out reading drabbles and short stories, all Bella and Edward, of course. Then, THEN, I discovered the ratings feature in the search engine and OH. MY. GOD. I found one-shots for the honeymoon scene. I found one-shots about Bella having her period and Edward eating her out. Oh, yes, I love the dark side that's been created. I love it. I created my account and I used the name IdreamofEddy because I LOVED Edward. I still don't know what possessed me to this day to spell 'Eddie' as 'Eddy'...I think I was deprived of sleep.

The first long M-rated fic I read, though, was Heatwave, by Ruby-Wednesday. I loved it. Then one day, I stumbled upon this fic called All That I've Got when I failed to set the rating. I read the summary and it caught my attention. It was set after Edward left in New Moon and it introduced a new vampire. This fic owned me and still does. Then I discovered Someone Else's Memoirs and my God. MY GOD. I never cried so hard over a story my whole life. I fell in love with the Bella/Jasper pairing after reading that story. I found The Passage of Time, and then the fic that probably owns every Jasper/Bella fan out there, When Darkness Turns to Light.

Which are your favorite stories?

Edward: Heatwave by Ruby-Wednesday, Wide Awake by AngstGoddess003, Nice Catch by PassionforTwilight, If Love Could Light a Candle by Pastiche Pen, Seducing Ms Swan by DQRC, The Office by tby789...the list goes on and on.

Jasper: Someone Else's Memoirs by a certain slant of light, When Darkness Turns to Light by Janna Banana, The Passage of Time by crysta656...there are so many that I have come to love, it's unreal. Currently, though, I am dry-humping The Last Mile by catonspeed and Running by Merina Green.

I like reading a little of everything if the summary interests me. I'm also a little bit particular to the OC tales because it puts a creative twist on some fics. All That I've Got owns me hard, but I also love Sparkling Angel by vampvixen01, and a fic called The Long Road Home by Scorpio21, which is still a WIP. There's also Bleed by sumisimas. It was a one-shot for a contest, and it's dark, and descriptive, and it's downright bone-chilling. I love the dark side of Edward, human or vamp. So, I was thrilled to hear it is going to be turned into a multi-chapter story.

Who are your favorite characters, from who you like the most to er...who you would like to kill right off the bat?

Edward. Jasper. Peter. Yes, Peter! Most likely, however, I would kill Edward - because I already have. I love Edward, but I don't write him. I don't think I could ever write his POV well enough. I have to say, though, that when it comes to killing characters, Lucy's chapter in The Last Mile with the death of Bella's mother is the most gut-wrenching character death I've ever read in Twilight FF.

Which fics are you reading right now, and which ones have your complete attention whenever they pop with an update?

Well, see above, but yeah, if All That I've Got Gabriel POV or The Last Mile update, I drop everything. The kid's tuna sandwich can wait. She won't starve.

What made you finally decide to start writing your own?

Boredom, mostly. I was waiting for updates during January of '09 and I couldn't find anything else to read. It was winter and my daughter was in school, of course, and I just didn't have anything to really do. The thought was in my head that maybe, just maybe, I could put something on FF. So, I put some more thought behind it and came up with an idea. I didn't expect much out of it because I have no writing background whatsoever. I only spent a portion of a year in college, and that was YEARS ago. I've always loved to read, but mostly fiction; mysteries, crime stories, and some sci-fi. But as soon as I started writing Colliding Meteors, it just flowed out effortlessly at first. One of the reasons was because I really just wrote it for something to do, and I didn't put much effort into quality. I just...had fun with it. To me, that's what FF is for. I've begun, however, to expect more out of myself - write better passages, learn about the usage of grammar and sentence structure. I even picked up a beta, finally, who - if there is anyone who has any influence over me or my writing - is Tina.

What's the atmosphere like when you're writing? Music...quiet...kids screaming and ripping each other apart, or husband bitching in the background? Do you drink and/or smoke?

I write better in a quiet atmosphere so I can just focus on what I want my characters to think or say. In the summertime, I love to sit outside with my laptop. I do most of my writing either in the wee morning hours or when Jessie is in school. I smoke. A LOT. I drink only on rare occasions, and I like the hard stuff. I also drink Busch Light, it's the only beer I can really stand.

What else do you like to read besides Twilight?

I love reading John Sanford's Prey series with Lucas Davenport. Lucas is hot. I also read Iris Johansen, Dean Koontz, and Stephen King. I LOVE the first three books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and I want my very own Rhage and Zsadist. I would love to write some Black Dagger Brotherhood FF.

What else do you like to do?

I'm really invested into whatever my daughter likes to do, whether it's watching some Spongebob or going to see a movie. She has a love for animals and she likes to learn everything about them, and her favorite place is the Omaha Zoo. We go every year. I have a dream to take her down to the Caribbean to let her swim with the stingrays and dolphins, and I'm hoping this is the year to do it.
I do take some time for myself occasionally, and that's usually during the spring turkey season with the 'boys' in my family. I like to hunt. I've scored 3 Easterns and 1 Merriam so far. I also own a compound bow which I love to shoot, but it takes a lot of patience that I don't have for turkey hunting, so it's never killed anything alive. I love to travel, but I hate, I HATE, flying. I was heading home one time from Washington after visiting a friend, and a wind shear made the plane drop 500 feet while we were descending into Tampa Bay. That shit was not fun and I threw up.

Tell us a secret.

I sneaked out one of my Dad's VCR porn tapes years ago when I was a teenager. When I was watching it, the damn tape caught, and it pulled out about 20 feet. I broke it while trying to get it out of the VCR. I had to cut part of it off, and I reeled the rest back in, and put it back in the shoebox underneath my parents' bed.

Favorite sexual position? You know we're pervy bitches and just have to know...

Whoever the hell he is, in-between my legs, eating my pussy like he's at the Golden Corral Buffet.

Psst, Kay! Watch THIS Golden Corral employee work his finger...spinning spinning spinning...WOO!

Your ideal Jasper. Is it Jackson or not? If so, anything you'd change feature-wise - height, weight, etc? If no, then who?

Jackson really does Jasper well, so, yes, my Jasper is Jackson. Jackson can do dark and detached very well. In my mind, I picture him, though, as taller with very long legs, and a little broader than he is in real life. His features are hard and coarse. I would love to send a virtual bitch slap to the idiot who gave him that bad fucking hair in New Moon. It made the stills of the movie with his shot look like crap, but whenever he was on-screen he played his small part so well you could look passed the hair, thank God.

  1. I know you hate the whole fangirl thing but...um......WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! Sorry Kay, had to do it. You know I love you like a fat kid loves cake right? :)

Oh yea, if your ever in or around Nashville; come visit. I'll put you and little Kay on a horse. :)

  2. Aww, Thanks Casey, I Love you, too. Jessie rode her cousins horse once, so yeah. Now of course she wants one. Not going to happen unless I get uber rich and I can hire a hot stable Man. Maybe like the one that's on Pretzel Man's Avi...

Tina, I love you, too. Where would I be today without you? Probably still working, still living in Iowa and making plans for my garden.. and most likely writing an unbeta'd TOM. But missing a Tina. I would be missing you. So I won't go anywhere if you don't.

I am seriously in love with that dodo bird. I'm on the hunt now for dodo pics for Petting zoo pics. Thank You.

  4. Kay, want to share the garden plans?

I was surprised, and then not, that you're from a military family. Otherwise it all made sense to me. I do have you bet on the natural disasters issue though - May 18, 1980 is all I'll say to that *evil laugh*.

  5. Thank You, Mistress, may I have another? I really appreciate it.

Mildred, I discovered a couple years ago that planting tomatoes close together gives you greater output, however, they take more water and I also give them a dash of miracle gro here and there. Last year, I planted 27 tomato plants, and my tongue is still healing. I love tomatoes. But I'm only going to do 15-20 this year. Plus, I usually do a pumpkin patch, and cumcumbers. This year I'm trying musk melons and watermelons, and if I can get a mound of sandy soil built, some radishes and onions. I have a massive clay problem, so I replenish my garden dirt every year.

Mildred, I was in Medical Lake, WA for St. Helens. We got ash. Where were you?
