New Contest at My Vamp Fiction!

OF banner

Hello, Lambchops! We have a message from SusanAshlea from affiliate, My Vamp Fiction, to share with you all today. Original fiction, anyone?! Woohoo!

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

We all love vampires, don’t we? I mean, what’s not to love – sexy men and women, danger, lust…sounds right up our alley here at MVF. Whenever one of us picks up a new vampire book or series, we always discuss it with each other as we are reading, and one of the most popular phrases that comes out of our mouth (or keyboards, rather) is, “the author’s take on the vampire myth is really interesting…” That got us thinking, and the first MVF Original Fiction Short Story Contest was born.

We are issuing an awesome challenge to our readers this fall: write an original short story and give us your own spin on the vampire legend!

This isn’t a fan fiction challenge; this is a chance to let loose and create your own world. Do you have some brand new characters running around in your head? Have you always wondered how vampires would be different if you gave the legend a little tweak? Tired of all vampires being suave sexy men? This is your chance to get it out there!

If you are interested, and we really hope you are, here are the details:

-Word count must be between 3,000 and 20,000 words. We want to give you a chance to really develop your world and your characters. However, keep in mind this is a short story contest.

-The story must have an obvious beginning, middle and end.

-The story must be rated R or lower. This is not an erotica contest. We want to encourage new writers to work on developing the characters and their world without the use of explicit sex.

-The story must be original. Fan fiction or re-worked fan fiction will not be eligible. We want this to be your creation from beginning to end.

-The story must contain elements of vampire lore, and your spin on it. Don’t take anything for granted; write your story as though the reader has never heard of vampires.

-All characters must be original

-All entries must be properly edited and proofread for grammar and punctuation before they are accepted and posted.

We know how protective authors are of their work, so we have taken steps to ensure that your short story will remain exactly that: your short story. Your contest entry will be linked as a protected PDF file to protect against theft.

Here is how to submit your entry:

1) Once your entry is edited and proofread to correct any grammar, spelling or punctuation errors, save it to a Word .doc file.
2) Make sure to include your title, author name AND pen name in the document (author name & penname will be removed until after the winner has been announced).
3) Email your document to meesh@myvampfiction.com with “MVF original fiction contest” in the subject line.

Once you have submitted your entry, Meesh will convert your document into a protected PDF file and upload it to the website, where it will be directly linked under the title only. Your author name will not appear on the entry until after the contest is over.

Important dates:

-Entries will be accepted through 11:59pm Central Standard Time on Saturday, October 9th, 2010.
-Entries will be posted for public reading and voting on Sunday, October 10th. Voting will last until Saturday, October 30th.
-Winners will be announced on Sunday, October 31st, on MVF’s First Anniversary!

How will the winners be determined?

1) There will be two methods, each worth 50% of the final score: Popular vote & Judges score.
2) Once Meesh receives your entry, she will remove your author name, thus making this an anonymous contest. The title will still be visible however, and Meesh will not be judging or voting as she is the only one with access to author names.
3) The popular vote will begin on Sunday, October 10th and will last 20 days.

Judging & Ranking process:

1) Each judge will give the entry a score based on several factors such as character development and use of contest theme.
2) Once all judging forms have been turned in, the scores will be added up with the top score assigned the #1 ranking, the second highest score assigned the #2 ranking and so on.
3) Once the popular vote is over, the rankings will be combined with the judges scores.
4) All rankings will be averaged, with the lowest number being the highest ranked.
5) Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Judges:

**The following people will be judging the entries for the Judges Score portion of the contest

-Nowforruin
-Chelseamcg
-Cedward
-KariAnn1222
-Mac214
-SusanAshlea
-SarahBella
-Saluki
-Jules
-Bforqueen

**It is important to note that the judges will not have any prior knowledge of the authors who have submitted entries. All judges will abstain from entering the contest as well as voting in the popular vote.

Prizes:

-we are currently developing prize packages for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place, so please watch for announcements concerning these prizes!

We will be updating with more information about prizes as we go along. If you have any questions pertaining to the contest, feel free to ask us here.

We Don't Need No Stinkin' Coven! Contest

So, we little Lambs have been busy little bees, in a Lamby kinda way. What have we been up to, you ask? Putting together a new contest!
Yeah, that’s right, we are hosting another contest! This time we are honouring the hotness of the Nomads. Yeah, you know all of us girls here are hot for Peter, thanks to our lovely LambMama, Kay. But what about all the other Nomads? They need some love, too! So, all you writers, please put your thinking caps on and come up with some vamp-style fun, including one of the smoking hot nomads.

  • James and Victoria getting it on before he becomes Bella-obsessed? Rock on! Add Laurent into the mix? Oh baby, even better.
  • Peter and Charlotte pausing in their flight from Maria to consummate their relationship in the naughtiest of ways? Oh, hell yeah.
  • Allistair finally finding his match in a super sassy vampire who won’t take his shit? I would love to see that.
  • Or maybe you wanna give Garrett his due and show how shocking Kate can really be.

No matter which nomad you choose to write about, we want to hear it!

There are a few rules, but I think you’ll find them easy enough to handle. Just visit the contest page on FFn for all the gritty details. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Winners' of The End Is Only The Beginning Contest Hosted by IdreamofEddy.

So, they came, they wrote, and they ALL gave us something more to appreciate. Now, the response was not the greatest, but four worthy stories were entered by enthusiastic and worthy writers. That's four more stories to add to the astronomical count of the Twilight Venue on Fan-fiction. Frankly, there are so many contests out there that are all so worthy, and which spawn other contest ideas, that it's become a never ending process, and it makes you wonder, 'Will it all really end? And when?' Because I sure don't see it happening anytime soon.

To all who submitted to the contest page, and to all who even considered it, I thank you. This was a blast, even if nobody wrote me any porn.

So, let's get down to business because we have some winners to announce here!

And the winners are...

For Voters' Choice...

They say that grief comes in five very specific stages, and that once you complete these stages, that you can move on. He asked me for my heart. This is what happened when he gave it back. Collab w/Giveusakiss413. M/dark themes, suicidal ideation.

And for IdreamofEddy's Choice - Host's Choice - a story I'm following as it makes its way into what will be a great multi-chapter story...

Edward says at the end of New Moon that he didn't think Bella would believe him so easily. What if she didn't. What if she saw through him?
Photobucket

The winners will receive not only these craptastic banners, but they will also receive a gift basket, containing a few goodies and some necessary supplies to get them through their New Moon experience at home. I am buying them a copy on DVD once it's released on Saturday. Congratulations, Ladies!

Of course, I have to mention cheesebananas'n'twilight4Gail for her entry How Could I Love Him?, as well as This Is Not The End by animal8. All of these great ladies submitted great entries, so please, go over to the page and read them. I would also like to thank each and every one of you who participated and voted in this contest. Congrats!!

I Get Off in Volterra Contest Winners!

We've come to the end of our little contest to promote the men of the Volturi. Oh, how I love them! We had many excellent entries, and I must say that I loved quite a few of them. It was very hard to come up with the winners, but we ended up with two amazing one shots for your viewing pleasure.

Without further ado, here are your winners:

Photobucket

The Readers' Choice winner on FFn was His Angel by EllaB twilight.

Angie is enduring a vacation with her abusive husband when she meets a mysterious stranger. Demetri is stunned when this seemingly ordinary woman changes everything he’s ever known in his 300-year existence.

This is a little Demetri/OC action and it is just a beautiful story. It paints Demetri in a different light than you normally see him and you can’t help but wish you were Angie, His Angel.

EllaB twilight will be receiving a banner by one of our very own Lambs. In addition, we will also be promoting her little one shot via our profile pages, authors' notes of our fics, and Twitter.

Photobucket

The Lambs’ Choice winner is The Mind’s Eye by chef diamond heart.

Alice and Bella rescued Edward in Volterra…but you didn’t really think that Aro let them go so easily, did you? There is always a price… Entry for the I Get Off in Volterra Challenge. Dark & disturbing – content warning

Here we see a little Aro/Alice action, but not the way you would imagine. This story is so well written and so original that we couldn’t help but make it the Lambs’ Choice winner.

Chef diamond heart will be receiving a package of goodies put together by JaspersDestiny, our Italian-Canadian Lamb. Hopefully chef diamond heart will send us a photo of herself with her gift package so that we can post a follow-up, and pimp out her story even more!

We would also like to give honourable mention to Where Your True Destiny Lies by cullen818. It’s a sweet and poignant Alec/Bella story.

Note to the winners: These are not your actual banners. We will be in touch regarding your prizes and discuss them with you.

We hope everyone enjoyed the entries for our little contest as much as we did. Expect to see a few of these great stories recommended in February during Volturi month!

Thank you to everyone who helped with this contest, either by promoting, writing, and/or voting. It was much appreciated!

Just a sliiiiigggght change of plans...

Photobucket

Hello all.

Hope everyone had a great New Year! We all sure did.

So, originally we had planned to dedicate January to those wonderful bad guys we just love so much, The Volturi. But, after the difficult month we just experienced with Emmett, we discussed it and thought it might be best to postpone Volturi until February. We apologize if anyone was looking forward to this for January, or if any of our affiliates have been really gracious in letting their viewers know that our blog was going to do this, but we believe we took a course of action that is just not beneficial to us, or to others as well. So, instead, January will be a free-for-all month.

The contest our blog is currently hosting, I Get Off in Volterra Contest, will officially end on January 30, 2010 with the winners being posted on our blog. Originally, we had thought that January would, of course, be perfect for The Volturi since voting takes place along with our announcements of the prospective winners, but due to what we just experienced during December with the lack of quality Emmett fics to rec, it made much more sense to hold off until February. That way it gives US the opportunity to possibly showcase some of those contest entries for our recs each week in February. It also gives us time to do some digging around, so to speak, and see what's out there that's been lying underneath a pile of collecting dust that could use a little recognition. Make sense?

And, of course - absolutely, of course - if you have any suggestions for Volturi fics for us to rec, throw them our way! We would love to read a good, quality fic that's out there, and we would love even more to plug the hell out of it. Just send us an email at AlteredandSacrificial@gmail.com, or you can even tweet it to us at @ALASL. We would appreciate it extremely, and we'll be sure to give credit where credit is due. Thank you to everybody who takes some time to spend at our blog and to all of those who have shown their support, no matter what it is or was: MWAH!

I Get Off in Volterra Contest

Photobucket

Do you like the Volturi? Especially the MEN of the Volturi? Well, anyone who is reading my story can guess that I do. Seriously, have you SEEN my Demetri?

But, I digress. Why am I asking about the Volturi? That's what you're wondering, right? Well, as you may know, we really like the men of Twilight, and each month we are spotlighting someone different. November was Jasper; December will be Emmett; but, January will be The Volturi!

In honor of our upcoming Volturi month, we thought it would be fun to host the I Get Off in Volterra Contest, where all the lovely ladies of the fandom can write a sufficiently sexy one shot involving one of those Italian bad boys. How yum is that?! I'm drooling at the prospect, really. I'm so excited that I'm tempted to write an outtake from my story about a certain up and coming couple ...

So, please head over to the I Get Off in Volterra Contest profile on FFn and get brainstorming on some lovely, lemony goodness to share with us!
