Grammar Girl: DINNER vs DINER

POSTGG

Ah! We are having so much fun with words, aren't we?

This one is brought to you by Wendy again (she was on a roll one evening and I couldn't keep up!)

dinner versus diner

Wendy clarifies the distinction between the two words:

Jasper met Alice in a diner.

Dinner is what you eat.

WTF?????

WTF is right, Wendy dear.

Some illustrations, my friends:

DINER (Melrose Diner in Philadelphia, to be exact)

DINNER (a bunch of nut-jobs eating dinner 'in the sky' *cringes*)
