You know, a lot of people hate on Esme and Carlisle as a pair. I'm not sure what that's about – maybe because nobody wants to think about their parents having sex, and Carlisle and Esme are the quintessential parental figures - the perfect vampire parents of the perfect vampire family. In SM's books, we don't get to see a lot of them EXCEPT as the 'perfect' parents - eternally in the background, never interfering too much in their kids' lives (well, alright, it IS a charade, but come on – how attractive is that to the teenage reader?), and a source of endless support (emotional, physical, monetary). But they ARE vampires. And vampires are, as we all know, sensual, sexual creatures. And these two, mated for life as they are, can't be an exception to that. So, sure, we don't get to see it in SM's writing - at all - but we gotta know it's there.
Acts of Endless Forgiveness gives us a glimpse into their world. It's the story of their reunion after Carlisle and Edward have been in Phoenix with Bella, at the end of Twilight. They've been separated for three very stressful weeks, following the fateful baseball game, and it's past time for Carlisle to re-claim his mate.
EliseShaw has written some great stories, giving these pair their due, in canon. She allows them to be Real People, apart from their parental roles. The one-shot Acts of Endless Forgiveness is a good introduction to her work.

When the Cullen kids decide to go on a hunt, Carlisle decides to stay home and work on their taxes. While he does, his granddaughter, Renesmee, decides to join him, and what ends up is one of the cutest one-shots I've ever read.
I know a lot of TwiFic readers aren't really a fan of Nessie and refuse to acknowledge she exists, but who can't help but love this tender moment between a grandfather and his grandchild? I picture Carlisle with a little girl sitting on his lap, having a sweet bonding moment over... taxes, amongst other things. A very human moment from a couple of supernatural characters and it's very endearing to read.
I remember an article from Forbes about how Carlisle Cullen is the richest man in fiction. This fic is the perfect explanation as to how he's managed to avoid getting hounded by the IRS. He has everything - from birth certificates to school report cards. These things may be just papers to some, but it proves how much he cares for his family and why he's the patriarch of the Cullen clan. He looks out for the family in more ways than one, and Nessie makes sure that he knows she's aware of what he's done for the family. She's proud of her granddad and she loves him immensely for what he's done.
It's a well-thought out one-shot, rich in detail and beautifully written. It had me smiling from beginning to end.
