I see a lot of this in fan fiction, and I think it happens because we often write 'phonetically' and, therefore, overlook this simple boo boo.
Here it comes...
Incorrect: 'would of', 'could of', 'should of', 'may of'...
Correct: 'would have', 'could have', 'should have', 'may have'...
Agreed?
